Seasonal Farm Food Functions Manager (Catering)

Supervisor: Executive Chef

Location: In-person at Shelburne Farms

Start & End Date: April 29, 2024 - October 29, 2024

Pay Range:  $25/hour

Work Schedule: 7 day operation; Typical schedule is 5 days/week, 8am - 4pm 

Housing: Seasonal staff housing available from May - October

The Work You’ll Do

  • Work with the kitchen management team to produce daily food menu items for the farm cart and on-site programs with a focus on produce and meats from Shelburne Farms’ Market Garden as well as other local farm food partners.
  • Lead production kitchen staff in the absence of a kitchen management team.
  • Maintain target food cost.
  • Coordinate recipes and production logs with Packaged Foods Coordinator.
  • Maintenance of HAACP program and logs.
  • Follow daily and weekly cleaning schedules.
  • Ability to train staff for food safety and sanitation.
  • Keep a positive attitude and promote a respectful work environment

 

What You’ll Bring 

 

  • Experience for preparing and sharing locally sourced, simply prepared and beautifully presented, great tasting nutritious food.
  • 3 years or more savory cooking experience in a high volume setting (catering experience a plus). 
  • Kitchen management experience.  
  • Strong leadership, organizational, administrative, problem solving and communication skills.
  • Self motivated, team player with flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Excellent knife skills and extensive understanding of various cooking techniques, both savory and pastry. 
  • Inspired by the Farm’s mission, vision, core values and strategic plan, and personally and professionally committed to advancing social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • A working knowledge of the Google/Microsoft Office suite of programs (Sheets, Docs, Excel, etc.) a plus. 
  • This position may require a criminal background check due the proximity to our Children’s Farm Yard, day visitors and overnight guests staying in our lodging. Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Physically demanding work on a working dairy farm, in settings with no central heat or air conditioning.
  • Fast-paced dining environment.
  • Carrying and moving items up and down stairs, including items weighing approx. 40 lbs. 
  • Commitment to contribute to and maintain a tidy shared workspace.
  • Indoor and outdoor work environment.
  • Moving over uneven terrain.

  • Six (6) days (total of 48 hours) of paid Sick Time for all seasonal employees, regardless of average hours worked/week and length of seasonal time working on the farm.
