Leap Day Cheddar Release
Leap Day Cheddar is BACK at Shelburne Farms! This cheese was made Leap Day 2016 and will be released Leap Day 2020. When we released our 2016 Leap Day cheddar, we heard from many that it was the best cheddar they’ve ever tasted!
Come to our Welcome Center & Farm Store on Saturday, February 29, to taste, purchase, and learn about this special item. Cheese Sales Manager Tom Perry will be on hand to cut fresh pieces off the block from 11:00AM-2:00PM, and you can pick up a pre-cut and sealed ½ lb piece any time (but they’ll sell fast!).
Aside from a longer aging time, we don’t do anything out of the ordinary to make this cheddar, but it just seems to happen that we get some amazing milk to transform into a long-aged cheese at the end of February… Having a group of cheesemakers committed to making a “perfect 10” cheese every day helps too! The result: a great, sharp flavor and lots of crunchy cheese crystals.
