Open to everyone, including community members, youth climate advocates, and educators.

Join us for an evening with Linda Booth Sweeney, nationally recognized systems educator and author. Teachers and advocates often find it difficult to communicate the complexities of climate change to younger audiences. The gravity and magnitude of the subject can feel overwhelming and disempowering. To learn and retain ideas, students need opportunities to experiment, interact, and play. They also need analogies that “stick” and provide them with a sense of agency.  In this interactive session, Linda Booth Sweeney shares innovative perspectives on climate change education.  Come explore ways to integrate an atmospheric-bathtub analogy and activity into science curriculum.  Linda will also address education-relevant topics including a systems view of climate change dynamics, carbon drawdown solutions, and authentic youth engagement.  Come prepared to play, learn and connect with your fellow educators and engaged citizens!

Dr. Linda Booth Sweeney is a whole-systems learning pioneer, author and founder of The Toggle Group. Through the Toggle Group, she co-creates experiential learn/do opportunities for people of all ages to see, understand and work with interdependent systems. Linda works with Fortune 500 companies, schools, nonprofits, government agencies, youth empowerment groups and social entrepreneurs to develop systems-based capacity building and innovation strategies. In much of her work uses systems mapping to “help the systems to see itself” around complex issues such as climate change, sustainable supply chain management, food system resilience, childhood obesity, sectarian conflict and sustainable production/consumption. Most recently, Linda designed and led SUSI, a three-year, 15-foundation, global learning collaborative focused on Systems Understanding for Social Impact. She is currently launching Toggle Labs, immersive collaboratories, supported by virtual and augmented reality technologies, to foster improved learning, collaboration and innovation in a post-Covid era.

Linda develops a variety of multi-media resources to enable learners to lean into complexity including the PBS Learning Media systems literacy pilot and an augmented reality learning app (in development). She is the author of  The Systems Thinking Playbook  (co-authored with Dennis Meadows),  Connected Wisdom: Living Stories about Living Systems,   When a Butterfly Sneezes  and the  Climate Change Playbook and has a second career as award-winning children’s book author. In addition to writing and consulting, Linda especially enjoys her works as visiting faculty member, most recently to U.C. Berkeley Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Bridgewater State, Babson College, and OSR/Bainbridge masters program.

Linda holds a masters and a doctorate in Education from Harvard University and lives outside of Boston with her family. She is a yoga enthusiast, avid hiker and ukulele player.
