Beyond the Barn campers experience the farm between the hours when the rooster crows to when the stars shine bright at night. This overnight camp is a combination of traditional camping activities and essential farm experiences that engage campers in the daily cycles and rhythm of Farm happenings. Our home base is the Coach Barn Forest, a clearing near the lake with a fire circle, outdoor kitchen, running water, an enclosed composting toilet, and plenty of grassy space to set-up our tents, play games, run, and explore. The day begins as early as 4:30AM for early risers to help with calf chores at the dairy, or can begin later around a cozy fire while helping to make a hearty breakfast. We will get to meet and work alongside the cheesemakers, chefs, gardeners, milkers, farmers, and sugarmakers that make the farm function in all seasons. The joy of preparing and sharing all of our meals together, group discussions, personal reflection, and authentic farm experiences lead to the development of a tight-knit supportive community. Our days will also have scheduled downtime, team building activities, group games, choice time based on camper interest, and the opportunity to cool off, swim, explore, or skip rocks in Lake Champlain. Each evening we’ll watch the sunset together and then share stories, songs, and laughs around the fire before tucking into our tents to snooze under the stars and rest up for another day beyond the barn. Campers are not required to own any camping gear. Tents, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads are available for campers to borrow as needed.
