Tracking and Trailing a Vermont Carnivore

A phenology series targeting exciting natural events unfolding through the seasons. Programs will be scheduled throughout the season.

After a short slide presentation to introduce the owls that we may encounter, hike into nearby woods to attempt to draw in a wild owl with our human calls. Gather to learn from one another and from Jon and Randall’s life-long experiences mentoring others in deepening relationships with nature. Explore how and why a sacred approach to hunting fosters respect, reciprocity and responsibility toward the web of life. Activities may include archery, story-telling, awareness exercises, animal tracking and trailing, and practicing the routines of the sacred hunt. If you value the direct experience of nature in your own life and wish to share it with others this workshop will offer you the skills and confidence to pass on these traditions.
Jon Young’s “Cultural Mentoring” approach to developing nature connections, holistic human awareness and advance peacemaking skills has spawned over 100 local school programs and initiatives in the U.S. and Europe. He is co-author of a new book on nature awareness mentoring, Coyote’s Guide to Connecting with Nature.
Dr. Randall Eaton is an internationally recognized authority in animal behavior, human evolution, wildlife conservation and the philosophical, psycho-spiritual dimensions and ethics of hunting. He published and edited the scientific journal Carnivore,” and produced “The Sacred Hunt,” a full-length PBS video that won 11 awards.
