Position Title: Dinner Server
Supervisor: Farm Food and Beverage Services Manager
Employee Status: Seasonal, Full-Time & Part-time hours
Exemption: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Location: On-site (99 Inn Road, Shelburne, VT 05482)
Start & End Date: April 28 -October 31, 2025 (required onboarding & training in late April and early May)
Pay Rate: $8/hour + tips
Work Schedule: 3-5 shifts/week including at least one weekend, 30 - 40 hrs/week. Shift time is 3:30 pm - 10:30pm; we operate 7 days/week from May - October

You are passionate about working for a restaurant that is an integral part of the Farm’s mission by providing a space where the community can come together to enjoy delicious and thoughtfully sourced meals. You have strong communication skills and enjoy interacting with and welcoming a diverse range of guests, visitors and community members. You thrive in a team environment, collaborating effectively with kitchen and front of house staff to ensure a seamless dining experience.
What You’ll Do
Guest Experience:
- Provide excellent service to our guests by anticipating and attending to their needs.
- Have a strong knowledge of menu items, specials, ingredients and preparation methods.
- Take note of any potential allergens in menu items/specials to communicate with guests.
- Accurately take orders for food and beverage and enter orders into the inn’s POS system.
- Be attentive to guests' needs and able to respond appropriately.
- Efficiently manage time to ensure timely service and order delivery.
Operational Excellence & Sustainability Practices:
- Complete side work as possible throughout your shift.
- Assist team members with the setup and breakdown of the dining room each evening, setting tables for breakfast service the following day.
- Assist with setup and break down of events.
- Share knowledge about Shelburne Farms' mission, programs, and products with guests.
- Understanding and promoting sustainable practices throughout the restaurant with practices such as accurate order taking to minimize food waste, separate food waste for compost, and highlight the farm’s local and seasonal ingredients to guests.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively and with warmth with a diverse range of guests, making them feel welcome and valued.
- Discuss any questions and concerns with the Floor Manager to quickly resolve any issues that arise during service.
- Collaborate with kitchen and bar staff to ensure smooth operations.
- Be able to adapt to changing situations and work schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Core Qualifications
- Prior guest service experience.
- Knowledge of food and beverage service.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Additional Valued Qualifications
- Familiarity with a point of sales (POS) system.
- A passion for farm to table food and hospitality.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Being active for extended periods of time and working in settings with limited air conditioned work environments depending on the location.
- Fast-paced work environment.
- Carrying and moving items up/down stairs and over uneven terrain, weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Indoor and outdoor work environment.
- Moving over uneven terrain.
- Maintaining a tidy shared workspace.
