Position Title: Pastry Chef   

Supervisor:  Executive Chef

Employee Status:   Seasonal, Full Time 

Location:  On-site (99 Inn Road, Shelburne, VT 05482)

Start & End Date:  May 1st - October 31st (required onboarding & training beginning in late April)

Application Deadline: Early-mid March with interviews beginning in mid-March

Salary Range:  $23.00 - $27.00/hour 

Schedule:  7 day operation; Typical schedule is 5 days/week, 7am - 3pm (rotating weekends and holidays)

We offer transformative learning experiences to help educators and students create a better world.  Our home campus is a 1,400-acre working farm located on the traditional, unceded and contemporary homelands of the Winooskik band of the Abenaki.

Who We’re Looking for

You’re passionate about creating delicious and beautiful pastries and desserts while prioritizing seasonal, locally sourced and farm-produced ingredients. Through this culinary work,  you'll contribute to the Farm’s mission and to a resilient and sustainable food system, all while delighting folks with your delicious and thoughtfully crafted pastries that will be enjoyed by guests and visitors across Shelburne Farms.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Production and oversight of all pastry-related items for our various food outlets, including breakfast, tea time, special events, dinner service, and the food truck.
  • Support the team’s sustainable culinary practices, including reducing food waste, composting, and utilizing every part of an ingredient.
  • Highlight Shelburne Farms products such as maple syrup, vegetables, fruits, cheese, and pastured meat and eggs.
  • Prep and cook using approved safe food-handling practices.
  • Support team efforts to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
  • Adapt to support and train team members in a teaching kitchen with varying skill levels.
  • Maintain a targeted food cost through careful procurement of ingredients both on farm as well as sourcing from additional farm partners.
  • Assist in monthly inventory. 

 

Additional Valued Qualifications 

  • Work well under pressure and strive to motivate others.
  • A passion for farm to table food and hospitality.
  • Experience using systems and tools such as Google Workspace (all Google Suite tools), event planning, point of sale, dining and room reservations. 

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

  • Being active for extended periods of time and working in settings with limited air conditioned work environments depending on the location.
  • Fast-paced work environment. 
  • Carrying and moving items up/down stairs and over uneven terrain, weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Indoor and outdoor work environment. 
  • Moving over uneven terrain. 
  • Maintaining a tidy shared workspace.
