Position Title:  Prep Cook        

Supervisor:  Executive Chef

Employee Status:   Seasonal, Full Time 

Location:  On-site (99 Inn Road, Shelburne, VT 05482)

Start & End Date:  May 1st - October 31st (required onboarding & training beginning in late April)

Salary Range:  $18 - $20 /hour

Schedule:  7 day operation; Typical schedule is 7am - 3pm or 2pm - 10pm,  and days worked depends on schedule  and your availability (full and part time schedule options)

We offer transformative learning experiences to help educators and students create a better world.  Our home campus is a 1,400-acre working farm located on the traditional, unceded and contemporary homelands of the Winooskik band of the Abenaki.

Who We’re Looking For

You’re excited to work alongside our mission-driven culinary team, prepping food that will be enjoyed by all guests and visitors of the farm. In this role, you'll play a crucial part in creating transformative learning experiences by supporting our chefs in preparing delicious, sustainably sourced meals. By contributing to our culinary team, you'll support the Farm’s mission through the power of food and sustainability practices.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Follow prep lists for the culinary team who will create nutritious, and sustainably sourced meals for guests.
  • Prep and cook food using approved safe food-handling practices.
  • Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible.
  • Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking.
  • Undertake basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food etc.
  • Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees etc.
  • Support team efforts to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.

 

Core Qualifications:

  • Passion for preparing and sharing locally sourced, simply prepared and beautifully presented, great tasting nutritious food.
  • 3 years or more food prep experience. 
  • Self motivated, team player with flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Excellent knife skills and extensive understanding of various cooking techniques 
  • Inspired by the Farm’s mission, vision, core values and strategic plan.

 

Additional Valued Qualifications 

  • Maintain a positive attitude under pressure. 
  • Ability to work weekends and some holidays as needed.
  • Opening experience is a plus.

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

  • Being active for extended periods of time and working in settings with limited air conditioned work environments depending on the location.
  • Fast-paced work environment. 
  • Carrying and moving items up/down stairs and over uneven terrain, weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Indoor and outdoor work environment. 
  • Moving over uneven terrain. 
  • Maintaining a tidy shared workspace.
