Supervisor:  Farm Food and Beverage Services Manager 

Employee Status Seasonal, Full-Time hours

Exemption: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Location: On-site (99 Inn Road, Shelburne, VT 05482)

Start & End Date:  Mid August -October 31, 2025 

Pay Rate: Varies (Please refer to inidivdual job descriptions in our Career Center)

Work Schedule: 3-5 shifts/week, including at least one weekend, 30 - 40 hrs/week. Shift time is 6:00 am - 1:00 pm; we operate 7 days/week from May - October

A Glimpse Into What You’ll Do as a Server...

Guest Experience:

  • Provide excellent service to our guests by anticipating and attending to their needs.

  • Have a strong knowledge of menu items, specials, ingredients, and preparation methods.

  • Take note of any potential allergens in menu items/specials to communicate with guests.

  • Accurately take orders for food and beverage and enter orders into the inn’s POS system.

  • Be attentive to guests' needs and able to respond appropriately.

  • Efficiently manage time to ensure timely service and order delivery.

Operational Excellence & Sustainability Practices:

  • Brew coffee and espresso drinks.

  • Complete side work as possible throughout your shift. 

  • Assist team members with the setup and breakdown of the dining room, setting tables for the next dinner service.

  • Assist with setup and break down of events.

  • Share knowledge about Shelburne Farms' mission, programs, and products with guests.

  • Understanding and promoting sustainable practices throughout the restaurant with practices such as accurate order taking to minimize food waste, separate food waste for compost, and highlight the farm’s local and seasonal ingredients to guests.

     

A Glimpse Into What You’ll Do as a backwaiter...

  • Work in coordination with other restaurant team members to guarantee excellent service to all guests.  Duties may include, but are not limited to the following tasks: 

    • Greeting guests and providing them with water, and bread during their meal. 

    • Maintaining the guest’s table to ensure that guest has appropriate flatware, glassware, etc, is free of crumbs and other debris, and is set with appropriate flatware for next courses.

    • Work in coordination with servers and others to run food from the kitchen to the guest’s table. 

  • At all times provide for a pleasant, hospitable environment for guests and fellow staff members. 

  • Maintaining a clean and organized pantry, dining room, and serving area.

  • Knowledge of the menu and specials for the day.

  • Alert the Floor Manager of any issues that may arise with dining guests.

  • Complete side work as assigned for your shift.

  • Assist team members with the setup and breakdown of the dining room daily, set tables for the next service.

  • Assisting with the setup and breakdown of events.

 

All positions- Communication and Collaboration:

  • Communicate effectively and with warmth with a diverse range of guests, making them feel welcome and valued.

  • Discuss any questions and concerns with the Floor Manager to quickly resolve any issues that arise during service.

  • Collaborate with kitchen and bar staff to ensure smooth operations.

  • Be able to adapt to changing situations and work schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Share knowledge and stories about the farm, our programs, and products with guests, helping to inspire and connect their restaurant experience with the whole organization.

 

Core Qualifications

  • Prior guest service experience.

  • Knowledge of food and beverage service.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

  • Being active for extended periods of time and working in settings with limited air-conditioned work environments, depending on the location.

  • Fast-paced work environment. 

  • Carrying and moving items up/down stairs and over uneven terrain, weighing up to 40 lbs.

  • Indoor and outdoor work environment. 

  • Moving over uneven terrain. 

  • Maintaining a tidy shared workspace.
