Afterschool Sheep to Needlefelt

Family & Youth Programs
A group of children gather around two sheep in a grassy pasture

In this collaboration between the Shelburne Craft School and Shelburne Farms, students will transform materials from the farm into beautiful felted art projects.

In the first two weeks, meet the sheep at Shelburne Farms, engage in their care, and learn about all the steps to go from fluffy friend to useful wool fiber. Then, search the garden and forest for plants to dye our wool into a rainbow of colors to use for our projects. We'll bring that wool with us to the Craft School for the last two weeks, where we’ll felt it into fun creations!

  • Week 1: Make some new sheep friends, engage in their care, and explore the steps to create usable fiber from wool (at Shelburne Farms)
  • Week 2: Harvest plants from the garden and forest to make a colorful dye palette for your project(s) (at Shelburne Farms)
  • Weeks 3 and 4: Make felty projects (at Shelburne Craft School)

This afterschool program is recommended for children grades 3 through 6.
