Climate Resiliency Fellowship 2022-23, Kickoff

Educator Programs
Participants in Shelburne Farms Climate Resiliency Fellowship talk around table

This program is currently full. However, if you are interested we encourage you to contact Aimee Arandia Østensen, Director of Professional Learning, at aostensen@shelburnefarms.org.

The Climate Resiliency Fellowship is a year-long professional learning opportunity for teachers committed to learning and teaching about climate change through transdisciplinary approaches grounded in place, solutions, and action. You’ll become part of a community of learners that support, sustain, and advance the practices and pedagogies of climate change education.

The fellowship kicks off with a residential summer gathering; meets in person and virtually through the fall and winter; and culminates with a spring gathering to share and celebrate progress.

Educators may apply to attend as either individual participants or school teams of two to work together to design and implement climate change curriculum and projects back at school. The Fellowship is suited for educators working with students in any discipline in grades 6-12 teaching in the northeast. A background in climate science or climate change education is not required. This program is designed to offer ample time and opportunities for personalized learning, especially for those who wish to delve deeper into specific areas.

We’ll work together to build knowledge, confidence and practice for effective climate change education in the classroom shaped by youth interest and voice. During our seasonal sessions and gatherings we explore climate change education through multiple lenses including but not limited to arts integration, STEM learning, and solutions-based approaches.

Educator teams are supported throughout the year by the network of educators, program facilitators, shared resources, and connection to informal education partners in communities across the northeast.

Course Goals/Objectives

You will:

  • Build content knowledge, pedagogy practice, and collaboration for transdisciplinary climate change education in schools across the northeast.
  • Plan and implement a climate action-focused service learning project involving student voice.
