Seasonal Farm Cart Line Cook

Salary Range:  $20 - $25 /hour

Start & End Date:  May 4th   - October 31st (weekends only in May, early June, September & October; 7 days/week from mid-June - August)

Schedule: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm; Schedule is determined in advance and coordinated by manager

Farm Cart operates from 11am - 3pm however the schedule reflects set-up and break-down times. You will need to be available to work weekends and holidays.

Occasional evening hours in July & August to support food at community events.

Housing: Free on-site housing available for this role however it may impact your base salary

 

Who We’re Looking for

As a Line Cook, working alongside a cashier at the Farm Cart, you will share the food we grow and raise at the Farm while helping to strengthen our local food systems by serving delicious lunch and snacks to visitors.

Our Farm Cart is centrally located at the Farm Barn, where visitors can engage in hands-on activities with our farm animals and gardeners at the Children’s Farmyard and watch the cheesemakers hard at work.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Serving the Farm’s guests well prepared food in a prompt, friendly manner.
  • Prepping and cooking of food using approved safe food-handling practices.
  • Routine cleaning of food preparation and storage areas to maintain a consistently high standard of cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Support the Farm Food Functions Team in production of food at the inn.

 

Who We’re Looking For

  • Passion for preparing and sharing locally sourced, simply prepared and great tasting nutritious food.
  • 3 years or more savory cooking experience. 
  • Self motivated, team player with flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor with a positive outlook.
  • Excellent knife skills and extensive understanding of various cooking techniques 
  • Inspired by the Farm’s mission, vision, core values and strategic plan, and personally and professionally committed to advancing social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion 
  • A willingness to participate in a background check.
  • Willingness to drive a farm vehicle to help transport food from the restaurant to the Farm Cart.

 

Additional Valued Qualifications 

  • Maintain a positive attitude under pressure 
  • Ability to work weekends and some holidays as needed
  • Opening experience a plus
  • A passion for great food and hospitality 
  • Experience with point of sales systems a plus

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • There are two steps leading up into the Farm Cart and the walkway inside the cart approximately 3 feet wide. 
  • The cart has a continuous fan operating to help with air circulation but there is no heating/cooling element besides the fan.
  • Carrying and moving inventory and trash, potentially moving items up/down stairs.
  • Carrying items weighing approximately 40 pounds. 
  • Maintain a tidy shared workspace as defined by the cleaning checklist and training.
  • Working in varied weather conditions.
  • Working and moving over uneven terrain.

  • Six (6) days (48 hours) of paid Sick Time for all seasonal employees.
  • Free employee housing available at Shelburne Farms for this role, however not required. This benefit may impact your total wages.
