Position Title:  Seasonal Tour Wagon Driver and Visitor Liaison

Supervisor: Farm Store & Welcome Center Manager

Employee Status:  Seasonal, Part Time hours

Location: On-site at the farm in Shelburne, VT

Employment dates:  May 1, 2024 - October 20, 2024     

Pay rate: $16/hour

Work Schedule: Part time including weekends and holidays (potential to be combined with Tractor Shuttle Driver positions for increased hours)

 

Who We’re Looking for

We are currently seeking seasonal Tour Drivers to transport farm visitors on our guided tours that are led by both staff and volunteer tour guides. Tour Drivers also serve as farm ambassadors creating a welcoming and informative experience for visitors. 

What You’ll Do

  • Safely drive a truck pulling an open air wagon holding up to 16 guests around the farm on our 2 hour tour.  
  • Prepare wagon for guests - ex. Setting out cushions, drying wet seats
  • Set up a cheese tasting station for tour participants. 
  • Assist the tour guide to provide a positive and safe experience for participants. 
  • Greet and assist visitors in a warm, welcoming, and professional manner upholding excellent guest services at all times.
  • Kindly answer questions and address concerns that arise from visitors of all ages.
  • Share the captivating story of Shelburne Farms, its mission, vision, and innovative practices in education & sustainable agriculture.
  • Help create and maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors, regardless of their background or experience.
  • Become more knowledgeable about our mission, programs, products, and ongoing initiatives.
  • Responsible for fueling truck. 
  • Provide information to visitors about the Shelburne Farms campus, history, products, and services.
  • Attend orientations, training, and meetings as required. 

Core Qualifications 

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with the following requirements:

    • No more than one at-fault accident, two minor moving violations, or two non-moving violations within the past year AND
    • Zero major moving violations within the past seven years (examples: driving with suspended/invalid license, DUI, reckless driving, speed contests). No more than one major moving violation in the past 10 years.
  • Able to maintain safe driving conditions for all farm visitors on the wagon and along the farm walking trails.
  • Able to safely drive truck and wagon while sharing the farm roads with other farm equipment, farm and personal vehicles, and walkers. 
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to be a contributing member of a team, while remaining flexible to changing schedules or program needs.
  • Willingness to receive feedback.
  • Commitment to the values of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification (training provided).
  • A completed background check is a condition of employment.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Hear and respond to radio communication over running tractor while wearing a headset.
  • Mount and dismount the tractor at every stop throughout your shift. 
  • Lift and lower the stairs on both wagons at every stop that weigh approximately 30 lbs. 
  • Outdoor work environment with varied weather conditions.
  • Move over uneven terrain.
  • Assist visitors to the farm in stepping up and down from the shuttle wagons.
  • Move and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs.
