What do a gourd tunnel, greenhouse forensic class, pizza tent, and frog pond have in common? They’re all part of an inspiring school garden program in Falmouth, Maine!
“I like to think of the garden as a collection of smaller spaces that we use with intentionality. We plant and plan for how we will integrate them into the curriculum, and how we hope students will find joy and wonder in those garden spaces through all seasons of the year.”
Meet Falmouth Public Schools’ School Garden Program Manager, Justin Deri, as he leads a virtual tour of the Farm & Garden Learning Center, which extends to roughly two-thirds of an acre.
Learn a bit about the evolution of the gardens (large parts of which were originally intended to be tennis courts!), how different sections function, and some of the ways students of all ages engage with the spaces.
The Falmouth Public Schools are 2015–16 alumni of our Northeast Farm to School Institute.
