Green Mountain Draft Horse Association Beginner Driving Clinic

Adult Programs
First person perspective of a draft horse driver driving two white horses on a forested road.

In this two-day, hands-on clinic, you’ll work with experienced teamsters of the Green Mountain Draft Horse Association teamsters and their horses in the beautiful setting of the Breeding Barn. If you’ve never driven a horse-drawn cart, this clinic will help you to get comfortable. If you’re an experienced driver, enjoy brushing up your skills and meeting Vermont’s draft horse community.

The clinic will start with a discussion about safety around horses and how to create a safe environment. Learn how to get the horse to go in the direction and at the speed you want to go before hooking them to a wheeled vehicle. Once you’re comfortable with the harness and the lines, hook the horses to a wagon or cart and start driving. The clinic ends with a long drive around Shelburne Farms, where everybody gets a chance to have the lines in their hands.

Ticket Pricing:

  • Both days: $130/GMDHA member; $145 Non-members (includes 1-year membership)
