Education for Sustainability (EFS) is learning that links wonder, inquiry, knowledge, and collective action to make positive change—change that will help create dynamic and sustainable communities. It’s education for a sustainable future.

EFS begins with learners simply noticing and asking questions about the world around them. These questions lead to an understanding about how natural and human communities operate, and how the systems they depend on are interrelated. As wonder and knowledge lead to caring, learners are given opportunities to take action to improve their place, and they realize that positive change is possible—and that they can contribute to it.

What do we mean by “sustainability?”

Sustainability is the pursuit of environmental, social, and economic vitality that allows the needs of the present to be met without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Education fosters an understanding of  the impact of decisions on economic vitality, environmental integrity, and social equity.

EFS is the approach behind all of our offerings for educators.
